The giant cockroach Blaberus giganteus is a nocturnal omnivore. It is often found in close association with bats roosts, both in caves and hollow trees, where they eat guano and any baby bats that fall. Males fight each other in both the wild and in captivity, often tearing legs off opponents during these fierce battles. These cockroaches grow slowly, taking a full year to mature. Females will live for another year but the males only half that or less due to their aggressive natures. Females give birth to live young. These roaches can be kept easily in captivity but require high heat for breeding. While they do not climb glass the males are capable of flight. The heavier females are not as interested in taking to the air.
